Fetcham Tandoori is the latest winner of a prestigious Silver Eat Out Eat Well award. The popular Indian restaurant easily made the grade by offering a wide range of healthy options and adjusting some of its cooking methods. Already a member of Surrey Trading Standards’ Buy with Confidence scheme, the Fetcham Tandoori has always set its sights high.
The Eat Out Eat Well scheme uses a scoring system whereby candidates are judged on elements such as the type of food on offer, the way it is prepared and how an establishment promotes healthier dishes to its diners. Specialising in Tandoori dishes, known to be a lighter option, Fetcham Tandoori was already on course with regard to healthy choices. But by using alternatives like low fat yoghurt in dishes such as Chicken Tikka Masala and reducing the levels of fat, salt and sugar overall, the restaurant ticked all the right boxes to earn that esteemed Silver Award.
Owner Mr Jehangir Haque was thrilled when he was presented with his Award. “This means a lot to me as it recognizes all the hard work and effort that we, at the Fetcham Tandoori, have put in to ensure the food we serve is of the highest standard and as healthy as possible. The Eat Out Eat Well scheme not only rewards restaurants for offering healthy dishes but it also helps the consumer to make more informed choices. Proud as I am of this Silver Award, I am now turning all my attentions to winning a Gold!”
The Eat Out Eat Well award is currently being piloted in the Surrey area and it is hoped that the scheme will eventually be rolled out to other authorities in the South East. It is managed by Surrey Trading Standards in partnership with Environmental Health.
